John has always been an artist in one way or another: drawing, acting, musician, published author, but he never picked up a paint brush until two years ago (2003) while in the process of getting his B.F.A. in Design in Multimedia at
Northern
Illinois
University
.
Since then painting and sculpting have become John’s driving passion. “I have become as addicted to creating as some people are to drugs.”
John has studied the way of the old masters and uses a similar technique of building layers of translucent paint for a unique look and style. Favoring dark and intense colors, John paints everything from portraits to landscapes but is heading in a more surrealist direction.
John’s sculptural endeavors include creating representational abstract forms using exotic hardwoods imported from
Africa
and
Brazil
. Sculpture is an outlet for his more abstract side and allows for a more physical, “hands-on” experience. The artist uses no stains on the wood, preferring to keep the wood’s natural colors. John is currently experimenting with the combination of Hardwoods and metals..
