A Gorgeous Fall Wedding in Northeast Iowa

Congratulations
Mr. and Mrs. Shanahan!

Let me just say, wow! I’ve been continuously blown away by this couple, their beautiful families, their thoughtful details, their calm, and all of the love leading up to and on their wedding day.

Cody and Alaine are two of the sweetest, most laid back, fun people and I loved getting to know and document them over the past year. When we first met at their consultation, they told me how Cody had surprised Alaine with a proposal at their favorite park in Iowa City. He didn’t just do it by himself, he had her family all help, and that is a theme that stayed true throughout their wedding. Family is so important to these two and seeing them all together, both sides, his and hers, and helping in various ways throughout the wedding melted my heart.

Cody and Alaine were married at St Patrick Catholic Church in Monona and their family and closest friends danced and dined at a reception in their family’s big beautiful red barn until the sun went down.

Enjoy some of my favorite images from their wedding day!

The details, the dress, the rings, the Bride getting ready surrounded by her sisters, best friends, and family, it was all perfect… and we cannot forget to mention that incredible veil!

While the ladies got ready and took photos on one side of the church, the Groom and his men were getting ready on the other…

The Ceremony

Before the ceremony the bride and groom chose to follow the traditional approach and not see each other until she walked down the aisle. The look on their faces when she walked down the aisle on her dad’s arm to her groom was perfect. The entire ceremony was so sweet, sentimental, and the music divine.

After the ceremony I stole the bride and groom away for just a few minutes of time before the family formals. I’m so glad we took this time for some epic portraits with just the two of them. I want to say a big thanks and shout out to Ashley and Rose for helping with the veil and the dress with all of the wind during their portraits…It was so windy but made it so beautiful!

I’m always pleasantly surprised by all of the candid images Zach, my teammate/ my second shooter/ my number-one/ my husband, gets throughout the day even during the formals. And I want to say a special thank you to Rose for being our right hand gal when it came to keeping up with their big beautiful family during all of the family portraits - you rocked it Rose! I love that it was important to the Bride to get photos with all of her siblings and their families on their wedding day and I hope they cherish these images for always.

Off to the barn… The Reception

where they ate, they drank, and boy did they dance!

The bride and groom chose their favorite cheesecake for dessert and the bride’s mother made delicious sheet cakes to serve the guests. The decor, the twinkly lights, the flowers, the whole atmosphere was simply elegant and complimented the magnificent red barn venue. And, the dance floor had to be nailed to the ground because the father of the bride is known to tear up the floor with his dancing moves! They weren’t kidding, he was amazing to watch! After we watched Alaine dance with her dad, we got to see Cody take the floor with his beautiful mom. From the church to the dance floor and everywhere in between, the love between Mr. and Mrs. Shanahan and their adoring families was a joy to witness!

Cody and Alaine (and family), Thank you for having us, for feeding us, for making us feel like more than photographers, for being our newest friends! You two have seriously kept your calm during a crazy year, you’ve kept smiling, and your wedding was absolute perfection! We wish you all the very best and so happy for your families to have both gained a wonderful new addition!
