An Adorable Stylish Family Session in Northeast Iowa

I was over the moon this summer when these lovely sisters reached out about booking their family sessions back to back so they could overlap and get photos of their baby boys together. What an adorable way to hold onto this sweet season!
We picked the day, the location, and they selected some seriously gorgeous outfit combos! What none of us expected, and what you can’t even imagine from their photos, was that this had to be the hottest Iowa evening… ever! We took a little extra time to cool down when needed, we worked as quickly as possible, we let the kiddos play (my favorite), and we got some really great photos! We captured some adorable posed shots and so many great candid images in between!
These mamas totally nailed their wardrobe selection and made it look easy! I could write an entire blog post on their outfits, but I just have to point out a few things that might help you out if you’re planning to do family session one day soon:
Color - The soft, light, cheerful colors compliment the season and look great together as individual family units and as a whole group. Notice how the blues worn by all of the boys unify the entire group and how the light blue brightens the images.
Variety - A fun mix of patterns and solids adds interest and contrast.
Style - I’d call this style “Sunday best” and think their barefoot babies add a level of comfort and ease to their adorable summer vibe.

We can all appreciate a solid smiley posed portrait, but my heart truly sings for those genuine candid images.
These are more than just pretty pictures. In a few short years they'll look back at these sweet little barefoot escape artists and relive these days, the snuggles, the joy watching their boys and those first steps, running fearlessly full speed, stick hunting, laughing, and playing by the river with the grass between their toes...
