Romantic November Wedding in Northeast Iowa | West Union Event Center
/The Waterhouse Wedding — West Union Event Center | Nov 22, 2025
Dalton knew for a long time that Evelyn was the one, and on November 22, 2025, he “finally put a ring on it,” just as their custom koozies proudly shared. These two are fun, relaxed, and incredibly kind—and getting to know them over the past year has been an absolute joy. When Evelyn first emailed, our conversation instantly felt easy and natural. By the time I met them for their engagement session last spring, I already felt connected. Like nearly every Midwest session, there was a chance of rain—but we went for it. I left that day knowing their wedding would be wonderful no matter what November weather brought. Luckily, the rain held off, and we were gifted sunlight beaming through the pine trees during their wedding day portraits.
The West Union Event Center is massive and beautifully designed—perfect for a wedding day with lots of moving parts. The bridal suite offers gorgeous natural light and plenty of room for the bride and her bridesmaids. The bridal crew was finishing up makeup as we got started photographing and wow did they look beautiful! The guys had their own space to hang out, shoot pool, and enjoy the morning. Another favorite feature is the private tucked-away room where Evelyn and Dalton shared their personal vows. The happy tears flowed through every part of this beautiful day.
Their ceremony took place in front of the venue’s grand staircase, surrounded by family who witnessed an emotional and meaningful service. Evelyn and Dalton poured sand together during the ceremony, symbolizing their lives joining forever. It was sweet, heartfelt, and so them from beginning to end.
After the ceremony we moved quickly through group photos before heading out to the most perfect sunset, the light streaming through the evergreens. We also photographed an incredibly sentimental detail—a family truck deeply meaningful to Dalton and his dad. Those images are breathtaking and I am so grateful everything flowed together so effortlessly including walking out to the sunset at just the right time.
The wedding party then took a quick trip downtown to Top Hat Tavern for photos and a celebratory drink before returning for the grand entrance into a packed event center. Friends and family traveled from all over to celebrate these two quiet, kind souls, and documenting their day - seeing other familiar faces I’ve recently photographed - felt like such an extra special honor.
The reception energy was high from the moment the wedding party entered. After the newlyweds made their way to the head table, they cut their cake and a prayer was spoken before dinner (which was delicious!). A wooden tiered stand overflowing with beautifully crafted cupcakes set the tone for the rest of the décor—handmade, thoughtful, and full of character.
The elevated head table at West Union Event Center offers a beautiful vantage point, and during speeches the DJ spotlighted Evelyn and Dalton as their best man and maid of honor shared stories, laughter, and heartfelt memories. The couple looked out over a room full of their people—the ones who have supported them through every chapter. You could feel the love in that space.
After speeches came their first dance, followed by the father-daughter and mother-son dances. Then Evelyn had a new to me reception idea: a reverse anniversary dance to pack the dance floor for a huge group photo. The DJ started with the newlyweds, then added couples married for two years, five years, and so on until the floor was completely full. At the end of the song everyone came together for one big, joyful photo before the party kicked into full swing.
Oh, and if you notice cousin Grant with a video camera on the dance floor—yes, that was halfway planned! I brought along a new camera gadget for some fun bonus footage and can’t wait to incorporate those shots into the Waterhouse highlight film. Thanks to Grant for helping me and Rachel out! Stay tuned! In the meantime, here are some of my favorite images from the Waterhouse wedding:
Mr. and Mrs. Waterhouse, thank you so much for trusting me to document your wedding day. Getting to know you and your families this year has been such a joy. I can’t wait to finish your full gallery and highlight film. In the meantime, I hope everyone enjoys looking back at some of my favorite images from this beautiful November day. Happy first married Holiday friends!
XO
Jillian
