A Joyful and Authentic Northeast Iowa Wedding | Lexi & Brandon at The Barn on Heron Hill

Lexi and Brandon are salt-of-the-earth people — loving, kind, generous, and hardworking. From the first time I met them, I knew their wedding would be a dream to photograph. They were so much fun to have in front of my camera, and I couldn’t be more excited to share their wedding story with you here on the blog today.
The morning was peaceful and full of laughter as everyone prepared at the farmhouse adjacent to the big beautiful barn. The guys enjoyed pizza and beer while the girls had their hair and makeup done by the sweetest crew. There wasn’t an ounce of stress— just joy, anticipation, and a few happy tears in the bridal suite. You could feel how loved this couple is by their families and how excited they were to be gaining a new son and daughter.
After Lexi’s mom and sister helped her into her dress, the bridesmaids gathered for their first look. Then it was time for the father-daughter moment, then a first look for Lexi’s brother, and then the groom’s first glimpse of his bride. There were smiles all around (and even a good laugh) when a semi drove by right as Lexi’s dad turned around, totally proof that real life has a way of adding its own humor to beautiful memories. Lexi and Brandon’s first look was so special, filled with smiles and genuine peace. I always feel honored to be part of these quiet, intimate moments on a wedding day.
The wind was the paid actor on their day. It caught Lexi’s dress and veil making the photos and video magic (follow along on facebook - highlight film clips coming soon). Their ceremony, officiated by their dear friend and Brandon’s old roommate Paul, was heartfelt and funny. Laughter broke out when one of the hidden wedding rings temporarily went missing! The couple had hidden a ring on each side of the asile, and the guests were to find them when it was time for the exchange. After a few laughs and a little searching, the ring was found, and the ceremony continued perfectly.
Following the ceremony, the marriage license was signed while guests enjoyed cocktail hour with refreshments hosted by the venue’s owner. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming-just like the couple themselves. We snuck away for a few final golden-hour portraits before their grand entrance, and the light was absolutely stunning. The barn was packed with family and friends, the food was awesome, and the couple cut the cutest cow-topped wedding cake.
DJ Cody Esser with Statik Entertainment kept the dance floor alive all night long! I love that he played the first dance songs of the couples’ parents and that they were still a hit all these years later at their kids’ wedding. Lexi and Brandon danced with their friends and family song after song, fully embracing every moment — PSA stick together and enjoy your wedding day together on the dance floor and mingling, you’ll love those memories later. As the evening came to a close, we took a few last photos under the string lights as the perfect ending to a perfect day. This overjoyed photographer made her way home, eager to start editing the sneak peek for the new Mr. and Mrs. Bergan!
Wedding days are creative, exciting, emotional, and so wonderfully beautiful. Every couple brings something unique to their day, and Lexi and Brandon’s wedding was the perfect example of that. I’m endlessly grateful that I get to document love stories like theirs and turn them into lasting memories.
Enjoy this little glimpse back at their beautiful day through my lens:
